first_imgAgent: Diogo Dalot only wanted Man Utdby Paul Vegas17 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveDiogo Dalot’s agent says he was desperate to join Manchester United last year.Carlos Goncalves told Record how big of a role former United boss Jose Mourinho played in bringing Dalot to Manchester after the ex-Porto youngster had undergone knee surgery at the end of the previous season.“Diogo was injured before [he joined] Manchester United,” Goncalves said. “So Jose Mourinho was very important, because making a transfer for a player who has just been operated on involves a lot of courage. And it was Diogo’s choice. It was a case where we had several solutions for him and the player decided where he wanted to play.“I can’t say, but they were other great European clubs.”On Dalot’s ambitions for his second campaign in England, Goncalves added: “Unfortunately he again had some minor injuries [at the beginning of this season], now eradicated.”The first year was good for a 19-year-old at a club like Manchester United and in the Premier League. But of course we hope this year can be a statement year.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgChelsea defender Kurt Zouma: Ajax win a big statementby Paul Vegas20 hours agoSend to a friendShare the loveChelsea defender Kurt Zouma has warned teammates not to get carried away after victory over Ajax.Michy Batshuayi’s 86th minute winner condemned the hosts to their Champions League first group-stage defeat since November 2014 and sent Frank Lampard’s side second in the table at the halfway stage.Zouma told the London Evening Standard Sport: “That win was a big statement against a great team. We are very confident now, but it is also dangerous when you are too confident, so we need to stay focused on what we can do and what we have to do.“Tactically, we respected the plan from the manager. Everybody was listening to the plan, everybody stuck with the plan. Everybody has been working hard — credit to the team.”Zouma hailed the team spirit which helped Batshuayi and fellow substitute Christian Pulisic, the goal provider, make a decisive contribution.“We have a very talented group and everyone in this team can play,” he said. “The manager makes choices and it is good for [Batshuayi] to come and score to give us the win. But also Christian Pulisic, he didn’t score but he came on and had a great game also. Everyone is going the same way. That’s why we are getting wins.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

  • Instructions: How To Make A Super Bowl Squares Betting Pool

first_imgSuper Bowl Squares betting pool template.Super Bowl SquaresHaving a Super Bowl party tonight? Make the game watching more fun by creating a Super Bowl squares betting pool. Here’s how you do it. 1. Get a large white poster board (or something else big to write on). 2. Draw a big square. 3. Within the square, create a 10 x 10 grid, making 100 little squares. 4. Label the left side of the grid as one team (Carolina Panthers) and the top of the grid as the other team (Denver Broncos). 5. Write numbers 0-9 on small pieces of paper. Put the pieces of paper in a hat. Draw one number for each square (10 squares) on the left side of the grid. Put the pieces of the paper back in the hat and repeat the drawing for the top side of the grid. 6. The squares are now ready to be filled with peoples’ names. You can fill the squares by random selection, first-come-first-serve, etc. 7. At the end of each quarter, the person whose square has the correct numbers with the corresponding team wins. Example: If the score is Denver 14, Carolina 0 at the end of the first quarter, the person with the Denver 4 – Carolina 0 square wins. The following video also gives instructions on how to make a square if you didn’t get it. last_img read more

  • Sarri waiting on second Chelsea signing

first_imgMaurizio Sarri has repeated his wish for Chelsea to make a second January signing in order to replace Cesc Fabregas.Two-time Premier League champion Fabregas departed Stamford Bridge for Monaco this month but the only player to arrive at Chelsea in recent weeks has been Gonzalo Higuain, the forward himself replacing Alvaro Morata. One reported midfield target Leandro Paredes completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, but links to Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic have also now emerged. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? And Sarri retains hope with just two days of the transfer window remaining.”You know my opinion; I thought it was important to have two players,” Sarri told a news conference on Tuesday. “One has arrived. I am waiting for another.”If he arrived, I will be very happy. But I won’t be too worried. I am happy to play with these players.”Discussing his options in midfield if no new signing were to arrive, Sarri turned his attention to teenager Ethan Ampadu and loan star Mateo Kovacic.”Ampadu didn’t play very well in that position [against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday], but he is very young,” the Blues boss said. “It is a new position.”In the second half, we tried that with Mateo and he can move the ball very fast and clean. We have to see if he can play there in a defensive match, then we can try.”Chelsea were handed a boost in the build-up to Wednesday’s away match against Bournemouth as Callum Wilson – a reported Blues target before Higuain joined the club – is a doubt for the Cherries.”Callum is going to be a doubt for the game,” said Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe. “It’s a knee problem but we’re going to wait and see. We’re going to give him all the time he needs to try to get fit for this game.”Howe added that Bournemouth have had no contact from any club regarding former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake, who has also been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge.last_img read more

  • Projecting the USMNT lineup versus Trinidad and Tobago

first_imgConfirmed U.S. national team starting lineup vs Trinidad and Tobago. Gregg Berhalter didn’t deploy his strongest possible lineup in the U.S. national team’s Gold Cup opener against Guyana, but we should see the Americans trot out a first-choice group for Saturday night’s match against Trinidad and Tobago.Forward Jozy Altidore is expected to get the nod at striker after being rested in the Gold Cup opener, with Gyasi Zardes taking a seat after scoring a fortuitous goal in the 4-0 win against Guyana. Weston McKennie looked to be a question mark after suffering a hamstring injury against Guyana, but Berhalter said on Friday that McKennie was healthy and available for selection. Berhalter could choose to rest McKennie as a precaution, with Cristian Roldan the player most likely to step in for the Schalke midfielder.Another question mark for the USMNT lineup is in central defense, where Matt Miazga could step in for Walker Zimmerman, who earned the start next to Aaron Long against Guyana. Miazga’s last Gold Cup start came in 2017, also in Cleveland, when he scored the vital goal in a 3-0 USMNT victory that helped the Americans win their group.GFX USMNT Projected XI 06222019The rest of the U.S. lineup should look similar to the group that defeated Guyana, with Tyler Boyd and Paul Arriola reprising their roles on the wings, with Cristian Pulisic working as an attacking midfielder on the left side of the dual-10 setup in Berhalter’s system. Michael Bradley is still working his way back to full fitness, but should get the nod as the defensive midfielder against Trinidad and Tobago after having his minutes limited against Guyana. Bradley, Pulisic and Altidore would give the Americans three players who were in the starting lineup in the 2017 World Cup qualifying loss to the Soca Warriors. Omar Gonzalez also started in the 2017 loss, but is unlikely to get the nod on Saturday. Nick Lima should earn the start at right back, where he posted another solid showing in the win against Guyana. Tim Ream is the projected starter at left back, and could also function as a left-sided central defender if Berhalter decided to experiment with a three-centerback setup in the 5-4-1 system we saw from the Americans in the pre-Gold Cup friendly against Jamaica.last_img read more

  • ‘Brilliant’ White backed to exploit U.S. weaknesses

first_imgEllen White has taken this World Cup by storm with her five great goals so far – and there’s nobody more pleased than former England and Arsenal Ladies team-mate Rachel Yankey. The Lionesses face U.S. women, who are reigning champions and favourites, on Tuesday night in Lyon and White will be hoping to add to a goal tally that sees her joint-top of the Golden Boot race in France.”Ells has been brilliant,” Yankey, who’s close friends with White, told Goal. “You always know she’s going to work hard but now she puts the goals in consistently, and she always looks a threat. Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare “I think her movement has been fantastic, and she’s a worry up there. Ellen has brought something else to her game.”When I speak to her, she says, ‘I’m just really enjoying myself, Yanks!’ She’s in a happy place and you can see that when she’s playing – it’s really good to watch.”Yankey, who clocked up 129 international caps during her own England career, is thrilled to see the amount of interest in the Lionesses, which she considers long overdue – and thinks that stars like captain Steph Houghton and full-back Lucy Bronze are showing everyone just why fans of women’s football have been talking about them for so long.“It seems like everybody has their opinion on the England team, and other teams, and VAR, and everything,” she says. “It’s led people to talk about women’s football as they would any other game of football.Ellen White Phil Neville England womenOf course, England’s success so far has been vital in generating interest back at home in the tournament – having won five out of five games – and Yankey says they have the capability to shine tonight in Lyon.”There are so many players you could talk about, and still ones you feel like there’s something more to come from them – hopefully that will come tonight,” she said. She has been impressed by the performances of the youngsters enjoying the world stage for the first time, mentioning Keira Walsh, Beth Mead and Georgia Stanway in particular.”They’re embracing it,” she said. “They’ll go out there and they’ve got nothing to lose. They will learn so much.”After this World Cup is done, they need to bring it back to club form, and be playing at the same high level so that we can generate a fan base there and keep the momentum.”And as for the USWNT, Yankey says it will be a tough test, but believes their last 16 struggles against Spain proved they have weaknesses that can be exploited.Megan Rapinoe Alex Morgan U.S. women“The USA are a good side,” she added. “I don’t think they’ve performed as well as they could have in every game.”I definitely think they were very lucky against Spain. Spain rattled them physically, they didn’t give them any time to breathe, and if England can do the same thing, they have a better group of players than Spain do – and a different sort of mentality.“But you can’t take your eye off of them. At any moment they could just come back and win the game.”However, she also thinks it is a challenge to which Phil Neville’s side can rise – and secure themselves their first ever spot in a World Cup final.”Sometimes it’s easier to be the underdog – there’s no pressure on you, there’s no expectation, only the expectation that you put on yourself,” she said.”I think if England go into it playing the same way, the same sort of style that they played against Norway, I think they’ve got every chance of really causing the USA some problems.”England looked fresh against Norway [in the quarter-finals], I think they looked really good, and if they can play at the same high tempo with the same aggression without giving up the ball in dangerous areas, if they can eradicate those little mistakes, I think they can win this one.”Rachel Yankey Head & ShouldersRachel Yankey was with Head & Shoulders, Proud Sponsor of the England Football Team and the UK’s #1 shampoo, encouraging fans to get behind the Lionesses. • Inside Schalke’s goalkeeper dilemma

first_imgThree goalkeepers may be vying for the No. 1 jersey at Schalke next season, and Goal has been investigating the possible permutations between Alexander Nubel, Ralf Fahrmann and Markus Schubert.Fahrmann has been first choice in Gelsenkirchen since 2011, but was displaced at the tail-end of last season by Nubel. In addition, Dynamo Dresden shot-stopper Schubert may join the club, but only if one of the incumbents departs. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Nubel was named in the UEFA team of the tournament for the recent Euro U-21 Championships, despite an error in the final which saw his team go down 2-1 to Spain.Sources have told Goal and SPOX that he is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich, Roma, and several Premier League clubs.Atletico Madrid were also thought to be in the running, but club president Miguel Angel Gil Marin denied making an approach for Nubel when asked by Goal.Schalke have made a concrete offer to Nubel, in an attempt to extend a contract that expires in 2020, but he was unhappy with his playing time with the club last year.“I played a few games last year, but nothing came of it,” the 22-year-old said in May. “If I was Schalke I would have acted differently, but I do not know the strategy of the club.”Schalke sporting director Jochen Schneider said his club wanted to keep the young star”We will do everything to keep him, but I can’t promise anything,” he said during the club’s recent general meetingA new contract with an opt-out clause would suit the player, as he would play for Schalke, but would be free to leave. Such a deal would not suit Fahrmann however.Fahrmann, who was captain of the team until February, and his ouster as No. 1, would not be happy to be Nubel’s back-up, and there are offers from Premier League clubs.Norwich City are chief amongst them, and he may be convinced to leave, despite a contract that runs until 2022.If his young rival leaves Fahrmann will stay at Schalke, disappointing the Canaries’ German manager Daniel Farke. The third member of the trio, Schubert, is a free-agent after his Dresden contract expired. He was Nubel’s back-up at the Euros and may be so again. He has attracted interest from Fortuna Dusseldorf, Augsburg, Stuttgart and Arsenal yet his preference is Schalke – but only if one of their current crop of ‘keepers leaves. His four-year contract with the club cannot be announced yet, but with one or the other players likely to leave, the club believe it will be soon.last_img read more
