Maradona I Participated in the Green March Gala Match For Free

Casablanca — Diego Armando Maradona said that he participated in the Green March Gala for Free, and people who say otherwise “are lying.”The Argentinian football legend shut down rumors that he had been paid to attend the Green March gala in Laayoune this past weekend in celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Moroccan Green March.A few media sources had claimed that Maradona, a retired Argentine professional soccer player, was paid a total of 2 million dirhams for his participation in the Laayoune gala match, reports Le360. But Maradona has refuted those claims. “Those who gave that information are liars. I did not come to Morocco for the money but because I love this country a lot. I will return every time I get the chance especially when it’s to celebrate the anniversary of the Green March,” Maradona told Le360, right before boarding a plane to Dubai. This wasn’t Maradona’s first visit to the Morocco, nor his first time attending the Green March Gala Match. Last year, he famously danced along to Moroccan folkloric music outside the Laayoune stadium, and a video of it was widely shared. The soccer player has also expressed his love for Morocco many times in the past. On November 5, Maradona attended a press conference in Marrakech ahead of the 2016 gala match and exclaimed, “Long live the King! Long live Morocco! Long live the Sahara!”
