first_imgBuncrana GAA News:Reserve Intermediate Final  Buncrana 1-08 Gaeil Fhánada 0-04 CLG Bun Cranncha overcame existing champions Gaeil Fhánada to take the Intermediate Reserve Championship title back to The Scarvey.Kevin Treacy got our mighty  men off to a flying start  in the 9th minute with his first of many scores of the day followed by another from 45.  Adrian McColgan stretched the lead in the 18th minute following shortly by Noel Mc Laughlin and David Bell sending  the boys in at half time with a 0-5 to 0-0.  A 48th minute goal by Kevin Treacy ended any hopes of a comeback for Gaeil Fhánada, who were left to count the cost of 11 wides  and with this Tracey ended his winning steak with 2 more points in added time. The aim for this side this season was to prepare the club’s younger players for the first fifteen and on the evidence of this game there are four or five members of this panel who will make that step up with ease next season.Buncrana: Ryan McElhinney; John Doherty, Andrew McLaughlin, Ronan Doherty; Simon McGrory, Adrian McColgan (0-1), Aedan Stokes; Gavin McElhinney, Stephen Dean McFadden; Noel McLaughlin (0-1), Kieran McNicholas, William McLaughlin; Shane McClean, Kevin Treacy (1-5, 2 ’45), David Bell (0-1). Subs: Stephen McGonigle for Stokes (44), Paul McGonigle for McClean (47), Kevin McClean for N.McLaughlin (55), Patrick Duffy for McElhinney (60), Conor O’Donnell for McNicholas (60).Donegal Ladies League Division Two  Buncrana 1-10 St Mary’s Convoy 2-2 The strength and commitment of our senior ladies panel was on show in Burt on Sunday. Having started their league campaign in March and winning a County Championship Title and progressing to the Ulster semi final, the panel were given the bank holiday weekend off to relax from football and spend some time with their families. Their successful league campaign over the months seen them qualify for a league final against Convoy but unfortunately the fixture was fixed for the Sunday of the bank holiday weekend. The club was unsuccessfully in trying to arrange a rescheduling of the fixture and the match went ahead in Burt on Sunday morning. Our ladies team that took to the field was missing 11 players but the brave supporters that travelled to Burt saw a panel of 21 girls who were eager to compete in this final and represent their club to the best of their ability and try and win this final. This is testament to the commitment of this panel and the underage teams who came to help their club in their hour of need. The girls played against the wind in the first half and from the very start showed they were up for the challenge and Paula Mc Grory in her new midfield role scored a point straight from the throw in. The mid field was controlled by Paula and Deidre Grant and along with the forward players kept most of the play in the Convoy half.  At half time Convoy were kept to just 2 scores (1 -1) and this was down to hard work and pressure put on their forwards by our defence, ..score at half time was Buncrana  0- 6 Convoy 1 – 1. The second half was a different affair and Convoy put up a stronger challenge and it was nip and tuck for  long periods and both sides failing to convert their scoring chances.  Despite missing several scoring opportunities Buncrana scored 1 – 4 while Convoy were again kept to 2 scores 1-1. The final scoreline was Buncrana 1 – 10 Convoy 2 – 2. The ladies have added another trophy to their collection of silverware and will play in Division 1 next year along with Termon, Glenfin, Moville, St Eunans, Carndonagh and Milford. It will be a big test for them but one which they will relish and will build and learn from and hopefully win some more titles along the wayU16 Hurling Derry League Final Buncrana 3-13 Ballinascreen 2-10Buncrana u16 hurlers completed their remarkable season with a convincing home win against Derry kingpins Ballinascreen in the last Derry League fixture and ultimately claim the Derry league title, this league actually included teams from Armagh and Tyrone as well. The boys were on top from the throw in and were never behind throughout the game , and although wasteful at times in front of goal ,were always doing enough to stay on top.First half points from Arran Craig,Dylan Duffy,Paul Tourish, and Ben roe Doherty left the the Scarvey boys 0:8 to 0:4 , in front at the halftime whistle,Ballinascreen came to within a point after the resumption of the second half with a soft goal conceded, but our boys had belief and began to take back control around the centre area, a scrambled buncrana goal from an initial Arran Craig attempt eased any fears of a Derry comeback,Screen replied with another goal, Buncrana then hit a purple patch in the next 10 minutes too basically seal the game, Oisin Grant got probably the score of the game, receiving the ball on the 21 yard line beat 2 defenders an unleashed an unstoppable shot to the back of the net, further points from Dylan, and Ben help build the lead, then up stepped Jack Callaghan to claim a fitting and deserved goal to seal the win driving the ball to the back of the net.,Final Score 3:13 to 2:10The team can take great credit in this achievement and is testament to their individual and collective ability, and hopefully these boys will continue to build on this win and be a backbone for future senior sides in the club. The platform for this win was based on a tight defence Mark Craig deputised in nets for missing Jason Campbell, but had great cover in front from Fiachra,Oisin (roe) Oisin Hegarty,Mathew Wilson,John Vaughan and Pjmc Carron.in the Middle third Dylan, Paul,Ben, Niall and Oisin were simply dominant, livily Arran Craig had a game to remember along with hard working Darren Connolly and Gabhan Kelly.but highlight of the second half was Jack Callaghans net buster. • Business ‘can solve social problems

first_imgFollowing the global financial crisis, conventional banks have lost a trillion dollars, yet they are still not in favour of lending to the poor, Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus said on Saturday. The Bangladesh banker and economist was giving the seventh Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture in Johannesburg.“I had to create Grameen Bank because the conventional banks refused to lend to the poor. This is the same for conventional banks the world over,” Yunus said.“They do not mind writing off a trillion dollars in a sub-prime crisis, but they still do not lend $100 to a poor woman despite the fact such loans have near a 100 percent repayment record globally,” he added.Yunus said conventional banks also complained that the poor were not credit worthy.“The real question to ask is whether banks are people worthy,” he added. At Grameen Bank, there were no legal instruments between lender and borrower, no guarantees, no collateral.“And yet our money comes back while the prestigious banks all over the world that went down had all their intelligent paperwork, all their collateral, all the lawyers and legal systems to back up their lending, ” Yunus explained.“When we give a $100 loan, behind that there’s a cow, there’s a few chickens, there’s something real,” Yunus said.“The banks that are collapsing were based on chasing papers. It was a race to create a fantasy world of papers. And when something went wrong, the whole thing collapsed. ”He said the Grameen Bank was locally based and its source of money was local.“In other words, the money comes from the deposits of the people in the bank. We take the depositors’ money and lend it. We are not connected with international banks, so their crisis could not reach us.”But Yunis noted that even if the problems springing from the global financial crisis were overcome, the world would still be left with some fundamental questions about the effectiveness of capitalism in tackling many other unresolved issues.“There is only one concept of business in the whole world, and that is the purpose of business is to make money.”He said the interpretation of the human being in this theory treated people as one-dimensional beings.“Capitalism and the marketplace that has grown up around the theory make no room for the selfless dimensions of people … what about starting a business on the base of selflessness?” he asked.Yunis proposed a second type of business alongside the existing one, calling it “social business.”“This is a business whose purpose is to address and solve social problems, not to make money for its investors.”He said Grameen had partnered in a joint project along these lines in Bangladesh with Danone. “Grameen collaborated with Danone to supply nutritious fortified yoghurt to the undernourished children of rural Bangladesh,” he said.Grameen had also created a joint venture with Veolia of France to deliver safe drinking water to the villages of Bangladesh.“Whenever I see a problem, I start a company to solve that problem,” Yunus said. The lecture was attended by Nelson Mandela and his wife Graca Machel. Yunus congratulated Mandela on his forthcoming 91st birthday.“You are the most wonderful person alive today,” he told Mandela. “I feel privileged to be on this planet while you are with us.”Sapalast_img read more

  • 2019 Fleet Average Valuation and Vehicle-Cents-Per Mile Number Released

first_imgThe IRS has released 2019 maximum vehicle fair market values for use with the vehicle cents-per-mile valuation rule and the fleet-average valuation rule. The IRS is also providing flexibility for 2018 and 2019 in the consistency requirements for use of the vehicle cents-per-mile and fleet-average valuation rules.Maximum Vehicle Fair Market Values for 2019The maximum value is $50,400 for:an employer-provided vehicle (including cars, vans, and trucks) first made available to employees for personal use in 2019 for which the vehicle cents-per-mile valuation rule may apply; andan employer-provided automobile (including vans and trucks) first made available to employees for personal 2019 for which the fleet-average valuation rule may apply.Consistency Requirements Relaxed for 2019 The IRS intends to revise regulations for employers whose vehicles did not qualify for vehicle cents-per-mile valuation under the rules in effect before 2018 because the vehicle’s fair market value exceeded the maximum permitted. In such a case, the employer may first adopt the vehicle cents-per-mile valuation rule for the 2018 or 2019 tax year based on the higher maximum fair market value of a vehicle for 2018 or 2019, as applicable. The employer generally must continue to use the vehicle cents-per-mile valuation rule for all subsequent years in which the vehicle qualifies for the rule. However, the employer may use the commuting valuation rule for any year the vehicle qualifies for that rule.Similarly, if an employer that did not qualify to use the fleet-average valuation rule before January 1, 2019, because it could not meet the pre-2018 maximum value limitation, the employer may adopt the fleet-average valuation rule for 2018 or 2019, if it meets the maximum vehicle values for 2018 or 2019 as applicable.Notice 2019-34Topic: Qualified Transportation Fringe BenefitsLogin to read more on CCHAnswerConnect. Not a subscriber? Conley made all six of his shots, including a quartet of 3-pointers, in the first quarter. Valanciunas made all nine of his shots in the first half. But despite the double-digit lead into the fourth, the Grizzlies had to weather Harden’s 28 points after the third quarter.“It got crazy there for a little bit,” Conley said. “That was a fun game. • Grading The Uniforms: First Threads Of OSU Season Get High Marks

first_imgI will be grading OSU’s uniforms each week using a criteria consisting of five categories.Four of the five categories are on a scale of 1-5. The helmet will have its own rating. Aesthetics will be a rating of the flow of the uniform as a whole. The intimidation factor will simply be how intimidating the uniform looks. The accessories will be a rating of the gloves, socks, shoes, and sleeves. Additionally, the Cowboys get a point for winning. A perfect score is 21 points for the GOAT.Let’s get to Saturday’s grade.Helmet (4)The new helmet design is really cool. I like the updated shiny logo and the bandana details. I would probably rank it in my top 5, but I have a feeling that we are in store for much more. The helmet stripe didn’t really do it for me this time. It looks like it could really work well on an orange helmet, though.last_img read more

first_imgHill (403 yards)Childs (178)Carr (86)Carson (45)Sanders (41)Cornelius (28)2. The OSU defense will once again finish top 20 in turnover margin — Currently No. 22 so this is looking pretty solid.3. Vincent Taylor will be an All-American — Taylor has been pretty strong so far. He has 20 tackles, three TFLs, two sacks, two QB hurries and three blocked kicks. Not sure about All-American, but he should be an All-Big 12 player..Kyle P.1. Rudolph will join the 4,000 yard club — He has 2,039 through six games. And he barely played in one of those. So he’s tracking. It could come down to the bowl game.2. Jeff Carr will finish with more TDs than any of the 394 other running backs — Nope! Carr has one total TD. Childs has six, Hill has three, Sanders has two and Carson has one. Nice.3. Tre Flowers will lead the team in INT with four. He currently has zero and trails Jordan Burton (2), Ramon Richards (2), Jordan Sterns (1) and Derrick Moncrief (1). The staff writers here at Pistols Firing made 12 predictions before the season started. Stuff we figured would come to fruition over the course of OSU’s season. Let’s take a look back at those predictions and how they’re looking at the halfway point.Kyle Boone1. Jarrell Owens will lead the team in sacks — Owens has 2.5 sacks which is third on the team behind DeQuinton Osborne (3.5) and Tralund Webber (3.0). Webber had two against Iowa State and Osborne had 2.5 which means Owens was actually leading the team going into the sixth game.2. Dillon Stoner will finish the season as the second most productive freshman receiver in OSU history — Stoner finished the season with five catches for 27 yards and a TD pass before getting injured in the Baylor game for the remainder of the season.#Big12FB: @CowboyFB on 4th and 1? Call on Washington for the TD. pic.twitter.com/n5IqgaXZ2g— Big 12 Conference (@Big12Conference) September 10, 20163. James Washington will be a Biletnikoff Award Finalist — Yes.Sam Aldrich1. Barry J. Sanders will not rush for 400 yards this season. — He has 21 carries for 41 yards so I would say this is accurate. Ack-rut.2. A freshman start at CB at some point in 2016 — Not yet, but with the way things are going I wouldn’t be all that surprised. 3. Stoner will have 25 catches and 3 touchdowns at the end of September — Unfortunately no. He had five for 27 yards and zero TDs, and he played all the September games.Thomas Fleming1. Rennie Childs will finish the season with the most yards on the ground, then Barry J., then Carson — Not looking great.
