  • EVSC FOUNDATION TO HOST HANGERS BENEFIT GALA

first_imgTo generate funding to help 3,000+ at-need students, EVSC Foundation is hosting the fourth annual Hangers benefit gala Saturday, February 29. The family-friendly event will take place at Cambridge Golf Course and will include dinner, a program, silent and live auctions. Single tickets to the event are $75, reserved table seating for eight is $600.  All proceeds from the gala provide clothing (shoes, coats, uniforms) and hygiene kits for students facing barriers.“There are a number of reasons families may need our support,” says Maureen Barton, EVSC Foundation executive director. “From house fires to homelessness, to housing or foster care transitions, we are able to act immediately to reduce strain on the family unit and help students stay focused on their education. $150 sponsors a child for an entire year. Community supporters who sponsor children enable us to step in quickly to help reduce a student’s time spent out of the classroom.”The goal of this year’s Gala is to raise $30,000 that goes directly to clothe students.Aside from attending, other ways to support the gala include donating an auction item, making a financial contribution, or dropping off new and gently-used clothing at the Hangers facility (located at the Academy for Innovative Studies/former North High School. To enter, please use door 27 on Wedeking Ave). For any other questions about Hangers or to purchase gala tickets, contact Laura O’Leary, Marketing and Communications at (812)435-0934 or [email protected] LinkEmailSharelast_img read more

  • Rangers secure Konchesky loan

first_img The 34-year-old – who has over 550 career appearances – is now in line to make his Rangers debut against Charlton on Saturday. “I know what QPR as a club are all about having played here over the years – the fans demand 100 per cent and that’s what I give every time I step on to the pitch,” Konchesky said. Leicester defender Paul Konchesky has joined Championship side QPR on a season-long loan. “I can’t wait to get going and help this club bounce back from last season’s relegation.” Konchesky’s signing gives manager Chris Ramsey a player of real experience, with the two-time England cap having played for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham, Liverpool and Fulham. “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get Paul in ahead of Saturday,” Ramsey said. “Left-back is an area we’re light on in terms of numbers at the moment owing to a couple of injuries, so Paul will come in and compete for the shirt immediately. “He’s got years of experience playing in both the Premier League and the Championship and he’ll come in and add that knowledge and know-how, as well as his undoubted defensive qualities, to the group.” Konchesky was a key player as Leicester won Premier League promotion in 2014 and helped keep the club in the top tier last time out. center_img Press Associationlast_img read more

  • PGA Tour Championship picks, sleepers, betting advice

first_imgRahm is one of several players that will be starting at -5 that I’m interested in this week. It feels like Rahm has been close to a win in every event that he has played in the last two months, and he is the type of birdie maker that can cover the ground on Justin Thomas if he falters. Format aside, Rahm has finished inside of the top 11 in all seven events that he has played since the PGA Championship in May. I love the value that he is offering at 17/1 over a player like Rory McIlory who starts at -6 and is +950. Xander Schauffele (30/1) Schauffele is a guy who I’ve bet on a few times over the last month, and to be honest, he hasn’t sniffed the top of a leaderboard. He doesn’t have a top-10 finish since a T3 showing at the U.S. Open. With that in mind, he isn’t a player who I need to see top-end form out of to bet on at his 30/1 price. Like Rahm, Schauffele will start at -5, which is well within striking distance to track down Thomas. His history at this event suggests that he can contend with a T7 showing last year that included three rounds under 70. Brandt Snedeker (130/1) I don’t want to go too crazy with bets this week on guys who are starting higher than -5. However, there are a few worthy punts down in this range, and I’ll take a stab at Snedeker at 130/1. Sneds will start way back at -2, but he does have a career eight-shot come-from-behind victory on his career resume, so making up the ground is not out of his range of outcomes. I worry that Snedeker won’t be able to rattle off enough birdies at a course like East Lake, but he can go low if his putter stays as hot as it has been for the last few weeks. MORE: RotoQL Lineup Builder | Tour Championship DFS adviceJustin Thomas will tee off on Thursday at -10, with Patrick Cantlay at -8, Brooks Koepka at -7, and Patrick Reed at -6. The remainder of the field will tee off with a starting score between -5 and even par. While I like the idea of the FedEx Cup leader having an edge heading into East Lake, the current format is making this week incredibly tricky to bet on. The two-shot lead for Thomas is a clear advantage, but there is no way that I can bet him at only +250. The players closest for Thomas to start the tournament also don’t see much value either with Cantlay at +475, and Koepka at +510. However, we can find some value beginning with the players in the -5 range and lower. Sure, having a five-shot disadvantage to start a tournament will certainly matter, but we frequently see tournament winners come from five or even 10 shots back after Thursday and go on to win the tournament. Before we get into this week’s picks, here’s a reminder to check me out on Twitter (@DFSBenj) for even more NFL, NBA, MLB and PGA daily fantasy content and gambling advice.Key Stats for Eastlake CCBall Striking Strokes Gained: Approach Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green Birdie or Better Percentage PGA Tour Championship betting adviceOutright Bets to Consider*odds via DraftKings SportsbookBrooks Koepka (+515)If you were to bet the top of the board, it’s hard to ignore Koepka at +510. You have to ask yourself what his odds would be if everyone started at even par in this event. I would guess somewhere around the +700 to +900 range, and now chop that number down to maybe 12 players in the field who have a legitimate shot at winning with the scoring system. Koepka will only start three shots back, which can be made up in nine holes if he gets off to a good start. This is the biggest of big-game players, and there is no way that Koepka isn’t salivating at topping off his likely Player of the Year season with a FedEx Cup title and the $15 million that comes with it. Jon Rahm (17/1) It’s been a great PGA Tour season, and we are finally at the season finale with the Tour Championship. This year’s version of the FedEx Cup’s final event will be a huge departure from what we have seen in the past. For the first time, the winner of the Tour Championship will also be guaranteed to be the winner of the FedEx Cup, so the stakes are high for both the field of golfers and the bettors.East Lake Country Club has been the longtime host of the Tour Championship, and we are very familiar with its layout. The winning score of this event typically falls in the -10 to -13 range, but that number could jump to the -20 range given the new scoring format. East Lake places a huge emphasis on overall ball striking. The fairways are some of the most narrow on Tour, and the rough is thick enough to cause problems. Half of the par 4s at East Lake measures out to over 450 yards, so don’t expect a ton of wedge approach shots. I don’t want to get too caught up in the layout this week. The field is the best 30 players on tour from this season, and virtually all have the overall game to shoot a good score at this course.  last_img read more

  • Steelers-Browns Thursday Night Football Betting Preview: Odds, trends, pick

first_imgSo far this season, the UNDER is 6-3 in all Steelers games and 5-4 in all Browns games. Over the past three years when the Steelers have squared off against AFC North opponents on the road, the UNDER has gone 12-1. Therefore, UNDER the 41.5 point total is a logical bet. While the Browns could realistically scrape out this victory in front of their home crowd as -150 moneyline favorites, BetQL’s NFL expert picks lists the visiting Steelers (+3) as the best bet against the spread in this matchup. The public agrees, as 60 percent of the bets have rolled in on Pittsburgh ATS, per BetQL’s NFL consensus picks Dashboard. Find out if the Steelers are a sharp pick by checking out the percentage of total money that’s been wagered on them leading up to kickoff on BetQL. WEEK 11 DFS LINEUPS:Y! cash | Y! GPP | DK cash | DK GPP | FD cash | FD GPPMeanwhile, the Steelers enter this game as one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Winners of four straight, the addition of Minkah Fitzpatrick has done wonders for their stout defense while Mason Rudolph and company have done enough to keep the chains moving on offense. At one game over .500, they’re firmly in the playoff mix and still have a lot of room for improvement, which is a sign that they’re winning games without reaching their full potential, especially on offense. Let’s get into what each team will bring to the table.Steelers outlookPittsburgh’s offense will receive a massive boost when James Conner (shoulder) returns for this contest. Jaylen Samuels will likely still make an impact on passing downs. Last week, Pittsburgh managed just 42 rushing yards on 27 carries (Samuels took 14 carries for 29 yards) and had 90 rushing yards on 25 carries in the previous game (Samuels had just 10 yards on eight carries). However, in those two games, Samuels had 16 catches for 84 yards and made an impact in the passing game, which is where he tends to excel. Conner’s presence will not only allow the Steelers to run the ball between the tackles with confidence, but it should also open things up for Rudolph, who should now be able to capitalize in play-action situations. JuJu Smith-Schuster had fallen off the map without Conner on the field and recorded just six catches for 60 yards over the past two weeks as defenses have been able to provide additional resources to key in on him. It’s important to point out that the Browns have allowed 221.1 passing yards per game this season (seventh best in the NFL) but have allowed 134.9 rushing yards per contest (sixth worst). That fact could make Conner’s presence even more impactful. MORE WEEK 11 DFS: Values | Stacks | Lineup BuilderSince acquiring Fitzpatrick, the Steelers have allowed 17.1 points per game and have been a dynamic, turnover-producing defense. Pittsburgh’s defense ranks third with 3.7 sacks per game and ranks second in interceptions (14). That’s bad news for Baker Mayfield and company. You can find all updated NFL betting lines, odds and spreads at BetQL!MORE WEEK 11 TNF: DraftKings Showdown lineup | Start or sit?Browns outlookSpeaking of Mayfield, he’s struggled mightily this year. Completing just 59.9 percent of his passes for 2,201 yards, he’s amassed nine passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions through nine games. Further, he’s taken 25 sacks and lost two fumbles, as well. His 75.2 quarterback rating is among the worst NFL starters and is 18.5 points lower than what he recorded in his rookie campaign. Moving forward, the running back duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt (arguably the best in the NFL from an overall talent perspective) will likely be the focus of Cleveland’s offense. Hunt made his debut last week and will presumably continue to be used heavily in both the running and passing attacks moving forward. While Jarvis Landry broke out with a strong performance last week, Odell Beckham Jr.’s inconsistency and target share has been puzzling all season long. The superstar has just two 100-yard performances and has caught one touchdown pass in nine games. That’s simply unacceptable. As previously mentioned, this Steelers defense is no joke. If Cleveland’s offensive line doesn’t come to play, Pittsburgh’s defense could realistically eat up Mayfield and force multiple turnovers. If the Browns can protect the pocket, their multi-dimensional offense always poses the threat of breaking out, especially if Beckham sees consistent targets.WEEK 11 NON-PPR RANKINGS:Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | KickerPrediction The Browns (3-6) are in must-win mode as they welcome the Steelers (5-4) to Firstenergy Stadium for a divisional Thursday Night Football matchup. With a 41.5-point over/under total, it’s implied to be one of the lowest-scoring games on the Week 11 slate and there are significant implications looming for the loser of this matchup — and significant opportunities for bettors looking to profit against-the-spread or on the moneyline. The Browns have two matchups against the winless Bengals and a home game against the two-win Dolphins on their schedule in the coming weeks. There’s still a chance that they can salvage their season, but a hiccup in this contest would decrease their playoff odds even more. After all, they’ll have to travel to Pittsburgh in a couple weeks for a rematch and will also square off against the surging  Ravens in Week 16. Therefore, the pressure will be on in front of their home crowd in this one. last_img read more
