  • UN envoy to Iraq briefs Russian Foreign Minister Russia pledges support

    The United Nations envoy to Iraq today briefed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the situation in the troubled country, focusing on the 15 December elections and the role of the UN Assistance Mission (UNAMI).UNAMI said that Ashraf Qazi had been invited to Moscow by the minister, who had also expressed his “appreciation” for the UN role in Iraq the country and “promised continued Russian support.”Mr. Qazi discussed the United Iraqi Alliance’s nomination of Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaafari to head the first elected Government, the emergence of new alliances in Iraq and the likely formation of the new Government, the mission added.Earlier this week, the Security Council welcomed the announcement of Iraq’s election results, congratulating its people for their commitment to a peaceful political process and calling on political leaders to work towards a fully inclusive government.“The Security Council stresses the importance of inclusiveness, national dialogue and unity as Iraq’s political development moves forward,” the Council President said on Tuesday, adding that the 15-member body unanimously condemned acts of terrorism in Iraq and said such violence should not be allowed to disrupt the country’s progress. read more

I said I would speak to her GP to get a second opinion.”The door was kept open – at no point was Chelsey told she wouldn’t be able to return to school.” A “perfectionist” teacher killed herself after being told she was emotionally immature and unfit to return to work.  Doncaster Coroner’s Court heard Chelsey Peart, 27, who taught at Rawmarsh Community School and also ran a textiles business, was found by her husband Mark at their home in Rotherham in April. She had previously been signed off work by her GP on a number of occasions dating back to November 2017.Helen O’Brien, headteacher at the school, said she took Mrs Peart to the hospital in November last year, after she had told another member of staff she had had suicidal thoughts on the journey to work.The court also heard Mrs Peart attempted to take her life in February, information which was not shared with the school.In March Mrs Peart became “annoyed” by a letter from a therapist which labelled her as “emotionally immature”, something her mother, who was present in court, said “changed her completely”.
