  • Upper Pine the top school in the district: Fraser Institute

first_imgHowever, the BC Teachers Federation — a long standing outspoken critic of the annual report — argues the rankings are just a make-work project by ‘the increasingly irrelevant Fraser Institute.’https://twitter.com/bctf/status/716652659097206784 FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fraser Institute has released its annual rankings of BC elementary schools, and there are 944 public and private schools on this year’s list. The rankings are based on ten academic indicators derived from results of the province-wide Foundations Skills Assessment exams.Private schools ranked 8.2 out of ten on average. While public schools averaged only 5.6, 80 per cent of the top-100 ranked schools were private schools.- Advertisement -The highest public school ratings are in West Vancouver and Richmond, at 9.2 and 6.9, respectively.Fort St. John is tied with New Westminster at 6.6, but the top two schools in District 60 were much higher than that: Upper Pine at 8.2, and Baldonnel at 8.Upper Pine was one of 50 schools across the province, 45 of them public, which showed significant improvement over the past five years. Peter Cowley, the Director of School Performance Studies, argues the Institute’s report card is the only objective reliable tool parents have to compare the academic performance of their child’s school over time to others.Advertisementlast_img read more
