(Photo by Steve Dykes/Getty Images)The day’s biggest game, No. 11 Oregon vs. No. 16 Auburn, hasn’t gone quite how many would have expected. The rematch of the 2011 BCS National Championship has been quite sloppy so far, with the defenses leading the way.Oregon holds on to a 14-6 lead, and has looked like the clear better team so far. The Ducks opened the game with an impressive 11 play touchdown drive capped by a CJ Verdell punch in from one yard out. That was about as clean as things have looked here. After forcing a punt, Oregon missed a field goal on its next drive, we’ve had a pair of rough interceptions by young Auburn quarterback Bo Nix, and missed opportunities on both ends. The biggest for both teams came on either end of what looked like a game-swinging turnover. Auburn’s Big Kat Bryant returned a botched handoff by Oregon 83 yards to the Ducks three-yard line, on a play reminiscent of the fumble that cost the Ducks their game against Stanford last fall.Where Oregon missed a chance from Auburn’s nine, the Tigers were held to a field goal after losing four yards on the ensuing drive. After a missed field goal later in the second quarter, the Tigers go into the half down eight.ESPN’s Football Power Index has been updated as we get set to enter the third quarter. Oregon is given a 74.1-percent chance to win the game.Oregon's win probability at halftime of the Auburn game, per ESPN's FPI.Oregon has definitely outplayed its SEC West foe by a decent margin, which the Ducks should feel good about. The eight point margin against a team with the talent of Auburn shouldn’t, though.Herbert, a potential top draft pick, is 10-for-16 for 122 yards and a touchdown. Nix, making his first start, has had a rough go of it, completing just 6-of-18 throws for 91 yards with the two interceptions. We’ll see if Gus Malzahn makes an adjustment with a quarterback who doesn’t look quite ready for this stage, or if he rolls with the young signal caller.last_img read more
